Another decison

Once again I am in need of opinions. Primarily because I am incapable of deciding anything on my own. And again, its in regards to the boutonnières. Or Mr. Z's boutonnière at least, as the dads' bouts are still in pieces scattered around my "craft table"

So the last time, the wheat bout got mediocre reviews, which was unfortunate since it was the favorite contender for both me and the mister.

So I stole an idea for fabric leaves from Martha Stewart and played around with it a little bit. This is a rather haphazardly assembled version, thrown together so I could snap a shot before the light disappeared. Since taking this photo, its been disassembled, and I added some more "veins" on the leaves. I also stitched some copper wire into the leaf and used that to wrap around the wheat stems to attach it all together... very clever, I thought.

fabric is left over from the cornsacs

I have also since ironed the leaf again so its a bit flatter. And when its actually assembled, I will put some effort into tying a nicer bow. So now its opinion time. Better with the leaf? Or without?

OH! I forgot to add, that after several rather embarrassing attempts to stitch some veins onto the leaf, I decided it might be worth my while to look up the proper way to embroider such a thing. If you are ever in need of such instruction, there is a very handy website here

I like both, but that's not really helpful! I like the plain wheat because of the simplicity. But, if you need the bouts to be more filled out, then add the leaf. Maybe you could take a shot of it on a lapel and see what they look like? Or compared to the bouquet?

I like the plain wheat better between these two... I think I'd like the leaf better if it were a lighter fabric (not in color, but in weight - more translucent, like a real leaf) but I love the description of the copper thread... So I'm torn. But between the two here? Without the leaf.

I like it without the leaf. It's more elegant and won't stick out too much from the lapel. Maybe try curling some of that copper wire in between or on the outsides of the wheat.

i like it better without the leaf. is that what i said before? i don't remember. i like kristina's idea about the wire.

between the two, i prefer the plain wheat too - i think it will look sharper against the lapel. the leaf looks like a felted leaf, maybe a bit too puffy for the wheat. i agree with the suggestions to try a lighter fabric. what about the fabric you had for your roses?

I also like it better without the leaf, or a leaf of a different material. But the wheat stands alone nicely because it's simple :-)

Between the two I like the plain wheat because of the contrast between the colors. The leaf, at least in the picture, looks a little dingy compared to the ribbon and wheat - but maybe it's just the weight of the fabric. I hope you're using project time to work on this.
